Bluestone Trail

The Bluestone Trail is a 1.27-mile shared-use path that connects James Madison University; Port Republic Road and Hillside Avenue; Purcell Park and the surrounding neighborhood; and businesses along Stone Spring Road.

The shared-use path is 10-feet wide, hard surfaced, and is used by many walkers, joggers, and bicyclists for transportation and recreation. Future phases of the project to extend it south to Ramblewood Park and north to Downtown Harrisonburg will be completed as funding becomes available.

Parking is available at Purcell Park, 41 Monument Avenue, Harrisonburg, VA 22801.

Briery Branch / Spring Creek

Mileage: 24.1 miles

This route goes through farmlands and wooded areas, passing through many small communities including Briery Branch, Spring Creek, and Montezuma. This is a moderate ride with rolling hills and scenic vistas.

Mileage: 35.6 miles

This route takes you on mostly scenic and low-traffic back country roads. There are nice views at Cedar Run Church and Mount Zion Church.

Mileage: 15.3 miles

This route goes through farmlands and small communities around Dayton, VA. This is an easy ride with rolling hills and scenic vistas.

Dry River Flats

Mileage: 16.6 miles

This route goes through the farmlands in the Dry River area, historically used for time trials by local cyclists. This is an easy ride, and as the cows you pass will tell you, this is as flat as it gets around here.

Elkton / Berrytown

20.8 miles (33.5 km)/981 feet (299 meters)

This route starts on the outside of the Massanutten Resort, winds through area farmland, a few small communities, and one town along the way. This is a moderate length ride with minimal hills. It has one section with high speed traffic, but most of it has very low traffic.

Mileage: 70.8 miles

The roads go through some beautiful and very remote areas. It starts in Harrisonburg and goes north through Fulks Run, into Broadway, and through Keezletown.

Grottoes Loop

50.8 miles (81.8 km)/2,170 feet (661.4 meters)

This route starts at the edge of the resort and goes through area farmland, a few small communities, and the Town of Grottoes. This is a moderate length ride with many small hills. It has sections with moderate traffic as well as sections with very low traffic.

The roads go through some beautiful and very remote areas. It starts in Harrisonburg and goes north through Fulks Run, then into Broadway.

Mountain View / Grand Caverns Park Path

This 1.4 mile-long path between Mountain View Park and Grand Caverns Park consists of a combination of sidewalks and shared use paths. Easy access, beautiful views, destinations are family friendly.
